Made-in-Alberta Newsletter November 16, 2009

November 16, 2009

1. “Passive Solar”
http://madeinalberta.ca/passive-solar-house-solar-alberta-flash.shtml
Garry and Cheryl Atchison built a passive solar house in west Edmonton 25 years ago, with a few inexpensive modifications to an otherwise typical design. Over the years, they have paid less than half in heating costs as most Edmonton homeowners, and you can’t beat the comfort year round.

2. Check out SolarAlberta TV!
http://madeinalberta.ca/solar-alberta-channel.shtml
If you click the link to watch “Passive Solar” you will notice it takes you to a new channel on RBCC Web TV. Solar Alberta (aka Solar Energy Society of Canada - Northern Alberta Chapter) has been a key supporter of Made-in-Alberta since day one. Watch also “Sun-tempered House”, with more detail on the Atchison design, the Riverdale NetZero series, “Greening the Grid” and more.

3. Copenhagen: Moms Against Climate Change
More than a hundred actors, producers, writers and musicians donated their time and skills to make this thought-provoking PSA asking for Canadian government action on climate change for the sake of today’s and tomorrow’s children. See the PSA at:

4. Barb’s Field Notes: From red tape to green tape
The City of Edmonton planning department is proposing new bylaws that would enable more use of solar and other renewable energies within our city. This is an excellent example of where huge progress can be made in our quest for a sustainable energy future over the next few years – bylaws, regulations, certifications, training. Everyone has a role to play. I’ll let you know how this plays out.
